Abstract

The indiscipline behavior among students using social media in the Islamic boarding school environment makes a vital indiscipline to be explored further. This study aimed to identify the effect of social media use on self-awareness and self-control among senior high students in an Islamic boarding school. This study used a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used was random sampling. The hypothesis testing was using two-way ANOVA analysis with a significant level of 5%. The results showed that the value of self-awareness was 0.045 <0.05, and the considerable value of self-control was 0.06 <0.05. The results of hypothesis testing showed that social media use affected self-control and self-awareness. The moderate self-awareness category is 81%, the high is 6%, and the low category is 13%. This means that the higher the intensity of social media use, the lower the self-awareness of the environment. Most of the students had low self-control which was 74%. This means that, on average, students still cannot control their emotions to use social media wisely.
